Alternative Therapies Programme for People in Recovery

A range of Holistic Therapies for people in recovery from drug and/or alcohol misuse and their family members. 1-1 treatments include Reiki, Acupuncture, Reflexology and Massage; SMART Recovery group offers regular peer support Thursdays 7-9pm and new DROP IN SESSIONS Thursday evenings 5 - 7pm All are low cost - by donation as you can afford. 4th Annual Breffni Challenge Family 5K and 10K Walk, Run or Jog - A Great Success!

A family 5K and 10K Walk, Run or Jog took place on Sunday, 5th October 2014 at 11am from Breffni Family Resource Centre. The event was run by Breffni Community Development Company in association with the Leitrim/West Cavan Branch of Downs Syndrome Association. All funds raised will be distributed between both groups. The event was a great success with lots of people taking part in the challange, and lots of people supporting. Many thanks to everyone!

New Courses at Breffni FRC

New course coming up at Breffni FRC

Women’s Back to Work This programme runs for 6 Wednesdays, starting on Wed, 22nd October 10.30am to 1pm. The course is aimed at women who wish to upskill and move back into the workplace, will include Multimedia and pre-ECDL, personal development, CV preparation, interview techniques and H & S Training. Complete Computer Beginners for over 55’s There are still a few places left on the Complete Beginners Computer Course for Over 55's which starts on Thursday 13th November from 11am - 1pm at a cost of €5 donation. Kickstart Your Career for the Unemployed This course runs for 4 Thursdays, starting on Thursday, 13th November 2pm – 4pm. Rainbows Programme 2014/15

This autumn’s RAINBOWS Programme will be commencing as follows: Induction evening for parents on Thursday, 30th October from 6.30pm to 7.30pm Group Meetings on Thursdays for 6 weeks running - starting on Thursday, 6th November from 6.30pm to 8.30pm with the last meeting on Thursday, 11th December from 6.30pm to 8.30pm before the break for the Christmas period. Messy Kids

New! Messy Kids Play Group

The messy Kids Play Group is a new group for 4 – 6 year olds at Breffni. The group meets every Friday from 5pm to 6pm, starting on the 26th September. Bring your kids along to this parent-led group and have some Friday Fun! €1 per child per week.

Positive Parenting – FREE Interactive Workshops and Courses


Being a parent is one of the most joyful and yet challenging roles we can occupy and having support is vital in being the best parent you can be. We will be running a number of FREE workshops to help with that support, which will cover topics such as:


• Positive Parenting (3-12 years)

• Living with Teens (11-18 years)

• Raising Boys/Girls (Fathers)


Issues covered will include; parenting issues, communication, exploring challenges, self esteem and cyber bullying (teenagers). If you would like to take part in any of the above workshops, please call us on 071-9622566 for further information and to register.

Therapist Recruitment

Therapist Recruitment: Alternative Therapies Programme for People in Recovery

Breffni FRC operates a programme of holistic therapies for people in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. This programme runs in partnership with Mohill FRC and is funded by the Northwest Regional Drugs Task Force.

We are currently recruiting 1 - 2 qualified therapists to take part in this programme. Clients are allocated by Breffni FRC on a needs basis and therapists will be required to provide their own insurance and undergo Garda Clearance through Breffni FRC.

Uniform Exchange

School Uniform Exchange

Has your child outgrown their school uniform? Breffni FRC is operating a School Uniform Exchange - you can bring uniform items to Breffni FRC and exchange them for others: or if you need items you're welcome to take clothing that has been brought in. Please make sure uniforms are clean and in good condition. The uniform exchange will run until Friday September 5th.

Knitting Group

Let's Get Knitting Group

The Knitting Circle started last year has proved a great success, with up to 15 people attending to create and learn in a relaxed space at Breffni Family Resource Centre. After the Summer break the Knitting Circle will start meeting again weekly from Tuesday 7th October 7-8 pm and every Tuesday from then on. Come along and make a few stitches — or show off your skills! No experience needed! Some of the group are experienced and will share their skills. Others are learning, or working on their own projects. Thank you to all who've donated wool and needles - please keep these donations coming! - and we look forward to welcoming new members. Community Composting Site

If you would like to take part in our Community Composting Programme at Breffni Family Resource Centre, please give us a call on: 071-9622566. We extended the opening times for the composting site to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 4pm. Information will be supplied and free compost can be collected when available. A one-off registration fee of €5 is required.

The Everyman Group for Men of All Ages

The group have already worked on a number of projects - rebuilding flower beds on the Breffni estate, erecting their very own polytunnel and preparing their Breffni allotment for the planting season. Sessions in graphic art, a trip to the Sligo Men's Group and, courtesy of Aura Leisure Centre, a week of swimming and gym, are all part of the ongoing programme for the group. New members are always very welcome and the group is free.

Everyman meets on Mondays from 11am to 3pm at the Breffni Family Resource Centre Allotments. Call 071-9622566 to register, or simply turn up on the day.

Volunteers Wanted for Breffni Youth Café

Breffni Youth Café is a youth organisation located at Breffni FRC which caters for young people aged 8-21 years of age and is open 5 days a week. We are currently looking for someone who can provide adult supervision for groups as well as assist other volunteers/youth workers with planning and group work. Someone who has good common sense with a positive attitude to young people is essential.

Supports for You
You will attend induction training and child protection training. Sharing experiences with and getting support from other leaders and staff. Policies, further training, good practice guidelines and insurance for the role are all provided.

Benefits to You
You will get to know young people, the other leaders and them you. You will develop leadership and facilitation skills and have opportunities to explore the various services in the FRC. You will also get the opportunity to gain some valuable skills which will enhance your C.V. “Volunteers are people from all walks of life, all ages and stages. Rural Lift Bus

Rural Lift Bus Service

Rural Lift Bus is available from Breffni Crescent to town daily.  This bus service is for people living in the Townspark area.  It operates daily Monday to Friday.  Anyone wishing to avail of this bus service should be at Breffni Family Resource Centre or at the bottom of the Currylane (postbox) at 2.30pm.  Drop off points are Kelly's Stores, Tesco and Aldi.  Return trip from town can be arranged.  One way costs €1 per person.  For more information you can call Breffni Family Resource Centre on 071 9622566, use our contact form or email

As part of our Administrative Services at Breffni Family Resource Centre, we are pleased to announce that we now make badges for any events or organisations: Birthdays or Anniversaries; Holidays, Stags and Hens, Staff name badges, your favourite pet, new baby, souvenirs, etc. Any design is a possibility, including your own photo & wording. Cost is just 75c each for a medium badge or €1 for a large badge. We can also produce the following: Photo Collages, Laminated Placemats, Personalised Banners, Posters, Labels, etc. We can also attend to your print needs, including typing, layout and printing. Evening and Daytime Alternative Therapies

Auricular Acupuncture, Reiki and Meditation in a relaxed group setting every Tuesday from 7.15pm to 8.15pm and every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm.
Cost: Voluntary Donation.

Particularly effective as a support for those recovering from addictions. No need to book, just come along.

Clothing and Textile Recycling

We now have a textile and clothing recycling bank situated at Breffni Family Resource Centre. A list of items that are recyclable is written on the bank but as a general rule, the following items are suitable:

  • All clothes - including coats, suits, underwear and night clothes
  • Hats, scarves and gloves
  • Belts, braces and handbags
  • All shoes - including boots and slippers
  • All household linen - including tablecloths, sheets and pillowcases, blankets, towels and curtains
  • Any worn out linen or clothing as long as it is clean (no oily or paint covered rags)

All proceeds from the recycling bank will go to Breffni Family Resource Centre so not only are you recycling but you will also be supporting your local community!
