Jewellery Making Workshop

Jewellery Making Workshop

Open to all adults. This workshop will be ideal for making gifts for others or yourself! Price includes making a necklace of your choice with matching earrings. Leitrim County Council’s newly-established Local Community Development Committee has started work on a new six-year Local Economic and Community Plan for the County. Our Plan will be all about Leitrim people deciding Where we want to go as a County … How we’ll get there … and What help we’ll need to complete the journey. Back to Work Programme for Women

Still some places available on the Women’s Back to Work which commenced on Wednesday 2nd April from 10am – 12.30pm. It is not too late to join! This programme runs for 12 weeks at a cost of €30 per person. The course is aimed at women who wish to upskill and move back into the workplace, will include pre-ECDL, personal development, CV preparation, interview techniques and H & S Training. Community Awareness - Drug Types, Harms and Effects

This information & training event takes place on Wednesday, 30th April at 7pm and is very comprehensive and covers the various categories of drugs and how they affect the brain and the individuals functioning. There is also a focus on the wider impacts of use on family and society in general and most importantly, it covers what we as individuals can do when we are concerned about someone - brief interventions, what they are and how we can use them are covered. Residents Allotment Project

Residents Allotment Project

Residents Allotment Project started in March and will be continued on Saturday 12th April from 2pm - 4pm. Local residents can come along to any of the workshops to learn about growing their own fruit and vegetables. Allotment space will be provided. Tools and materials are also provided. Cost: Free. Community Composting Site

If you would like to take part in our Community Composting Programme at Breffni Family Resource Centre, please give us a call on: 071-9622566. We extended the opening times for the composting site to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 4pm. Information will be supplied and free compost can be collected when available. A one-off registration fee of €5 is required.

The Everyman Group for Men of All Ages

The group have already worked on a number of projects - rebuilding flower beds on the Breffni estate, erecting their very own polytunnel and preparing their Breffni allotment for the planting season. Sessions in graphic art, a trip to the Sligo Men's Group and, courtesy of Aura Leisure Centre, a week of swimming and gym, are all part of the ongoing programme for the group. New members are always very welcome and the group is free.

Everyman meets on Mondays from 11am to 3pm at the Breffni Family Resource Centre Allotments. Call 071-9622566 to register, or simply turn up on the day.

Volunteers Wanted for Breffni Youth Café

Breffni Youth Café is a youth organisation located at Breffni FRC which caters for young people aged 8-21 years of age and is open 5 days a week. We are currently looking for someone who can provide adult supervision for groups as well as assist other volunteers/youth workers with planning and group work. Someone who has good common sense with a positive attitude to young people is essential.

Supports for You
You will attend induction training and child protection training. Sharing experiences with and getting support from other leaders and staff. Policies, further training, good practice guidelines and insurance for the role are all provided.

Benefits to You
You will get to know young people, the other leaders and them you. You will develop leadership and facilitation skills and have opportunities to explore the various services in the FRC. You will also get the opportunity to gain some valuable skills which will enhance your C.V. “Volunteers are people from all walks of life, all ages and stages. Teen Baby Sitting Training

Breffni Youth Café invites you take part in Teen Babysitting Training (delivered by NCYCS) this Easter Break in the Cabin. In order to prepare for your first Babysitting job, this training will cover many elements some of which include: Basic First Aid, Home Safety, Feeding, Nappy Changing and lots more. The Breffni Youth Café Easter Camp 2014 will run from Tuesday 22nd of April to Thursday 24th April 2014 11.00am to 3.00pm. The camp is open to children aged between 8 and 12 years. The camp costs €15 euro per child and due to the limited spaces available, booking is essential. Further details to follow soon.

Knitting Group

Let's Get Knitting Group

The Knitting Circle started last year has proved a great success, with up to 15 people attending to create and learn in a relaxed space at Breffni. The Knitting Group meets monthly (1st Wednesday of every month). To start the year, we will be putting together the blankets and hats knitted for Féileacáin, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Association of Ireland and a presentation will be made to the organisation in the coming weeks. Going forward, members have suggested bringing different or favourite patterns along and starting to knit a variety of items. perhaps members would like to have a stall to sell these at our Family Festival during the summer! Members who are just learning to knit can make scarves, blanket squares etc. Thank you to all who've donated wool and needles - please keep these donations coming! - and we look forward to welcoming new members on February 5th. The Knitting Circle is free.

Breffni FRC offers a range of holistic therapies to people who are in recovery from drug and/or alcohol misuse. This year we have a 16 week GROUP RECOVERY programme, led by qualified psychotherapists, which offers therapeutic, professional and peer support along with activities to help you strengthen your life following addiction. There are 4 places left on this programme, which will start at the beginning of February. Call today to book your free place! School Uniforms Available

We have a number of school uniform items available at Breffni which have been donated. If you can use any of these items, please call up to the community shop and take a look at what we have. All items are free, although you can make a donation if you wish. The community shop is open 9am - 8pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 5pm / 6pm to 8pm on a Friday.

Rural Lift Bus

Rural Lift Bus Service

Rural Lift Bus is available from Breffni Crescent to town daily.  This bus service is for people living in the Townspark area.  It operates daily Monday to Friday.  Anyone wishing to avail of this bus service should be at Breffni Family Resource Centre or at the bottom of the Currylane (postbox) at 2.30pm.  Drop off points are Kelly's Stores, Tesco and Aldi.  Return trip from town can be arranged.  One way costs €1 per person.  For more information you can call Breffni Family Resource Centre on 071 9622566, use our contact form or email info@breffnifrc.com

This new group is for parents who would like to have some peer support in an informal setting. Led by parents, these monthly Coffee Mornings take place every first Thursday (in term-time) at 10am. There's no need to book, just come along.

As part of our Administrative Services at Breffni Family Resource Centre, we are pleased to announce that we now make badges for any events or organisations: Birthdays or Anniversaries; Holidays, Stags and Hens, Staff name badges, your favourite pet, new baby, souvenirs, etc. Any design is a possibility, including your own photo & wording. Cost is just €1 each or €2 for large badge. We can also produce the following: Photo Collages, Laminated Placemats, Personalised Banners, Posters, Labels, etc. We can also attend to your print needs, including typing, layout and printing. Saol Nua is a Social Group for adults with learning difficulties, anxiety disorders, mental health issues, depression and mood disorders based at Breffni Family Resource Centre.

Evening and Daytime Alternative Therapies

Auricular Acupuncture, Reiki and Meditation in a relaxed group setting every Tuesday from 7.15pm to 8.15pm and every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm.
Cost: Voluntary Donation.

Particularly effective as a support for those recovering from addictions. No need to book, just come along.

Supported by the North West Regional Drugs Task Force.

Clothing and Textile Recycling

We now have a textile and clothing recycling bank situated at Breffni Family Resource Centre. A list of items that are recyclable is written on the bank but as a general rule, the following items are suitable:

  • All clothes - including coats, suits, underwear and night clothes
  • Hats, scarves and gloves
  • Belts, braces and handbags
  • All shoes - including boots and slippers
  • All household linen - including tablecloths, sheets and pillowcases, blankets, towels and curtains
  • Any worn out linen or clothing as long as it is clean (no oily or paint covered rags)

All proceeds from the recycling bank will go to Breffni Family Resource Centre so not only are you recycling but you will also be supporting your local community!
