Spring Programme

Aloe Vera Forever Living Information Evening.
On Tuesday 9th February, Breffni will host a Natural Health Presentation at 7.30pm. All women are invited to attend and learn the benefits of Aloe Vera Forever Living Products which may include the alleviation of symptoms of Arthritis, Excema, Thrush, etc. Please contact us for further information or come along on the night!
Menopause the Musical - Trip to Royal Theatre, Castlebar for the Over 55’s
Join us on Friday, March 12th for a trip to the Royal Theatre to see the hilarious and inspirational show ‘Menopause the Musical’. This uplifting 90-minute production includes parodies from the ‘60s and ‘70s and ‘80s and culminates with a salute to women who are experiencing The Change.
This trip is just €15 and includes your ticket and return coach journey from Breffni Family Resource Centre.

Breffni Youth Café and the National Lottery!
Every week, The National Lottery features a project on Winning Streak that benefits from National Lottery Funding. On Saturday 13th February, North Connaught Youth and Community Services will be featured and RTE / North Connaught have decided that Breffni Youth Café is the ideal location to record the film piece and interviews. While the broadcast will be essentially about the work of North Connaught Youth and Community Services, this is a welcome opportunity for you to see the work and fun experienced at our Youth Café and indeed our Family Resource Centre!
Breffni Parent & Toddler Group
Breffni Parent & Toddler Group now meet at the new time of 1pm to 3pm every Monday and Wednesday.
All adults who are in the company of a toddler are welcome to come along to this cosy venue and enjoy a relaxed cup of tea or coffee, while the toddlers have a great supply of toys and equipment to play with. No booking is required, just come along on the day to the Cabin at Breffni Family Resource Centre.
Breffni Pre-School
Earlier this year, the Government announced details of Free Pre-School entitlement under the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme (ECCE). Essentially, from the 1st January 2010, children aged between 3 years 3 months and 4 years 6 months, will be entitled to access to free Pre-School.
Breffni Childcare already operates a well established Pre-School service that is HSE approved and operated by qualified and experienced staff. From January 2010, Breffni will also be offering the Free Pre-School scheme (ECCE) to qualifying children. The Pre-School service will operate from 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday for 38 weeks per year, i.e. generally based on school-term system. As the new ECCE scheme commences mid way through the school year, the first ECCE programme will run from January to June. A new Pre-School year will subsequently commence in Sept 2010.

**JUST ONE ALLOTMENT REMAINING**
Allotment Scheme
Breffni Family Resource Centre have just 1 allotment remaining. Set just a 5 minute walk from Main Street, Carrick-on-Shannon. So if you would like to stay healthy & save money or you wish to exercise and get some fresh air then Breffni Allotments can offer you all this for an annual subscription. Ground level plots are 10m x 4m and raised beds for the less mobile are 7m x 1.2m and come ready for you to plant. Facilities, such as parking, water, community composting unit, use of shed and greenhouse are all available on site. Insurance is also included in your annual tenancy. Community Composting.
Members of the Breffni Community Composting scheme can now avail of mature compost to add to your hanging baskets, window boxes, etc. The composting facility is open every Tuesday from 8am to 4pm. Should new members wish to join our Community Composting Project, please contact Reception on: 071-9622566. A lidded bucket & information sheet is issued for a one-off payment of €5 and compostable waste can be deposited every Tuesday. This project is supported by Leitrim County Council.
Holistic Therapies at Breffni
In association with the North-West Regional Drugs Task Force, Breffni Family Resource Centre provides a range of Alternative Therapies to support those suffering Drug & Alcohol Addictions. Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA) Meeting Information
Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA) is a Twelve Step Fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships. Meetings are being held on a Thursday from 12.30pm-1.30pm at Breffni Family Resource Centre, Breffni Crescent, Carrick-on-Shannon. For further information please contact: Jessica on: 087-0617756.
Narcotics Anonymous
Narcotics Anonymous meet every Tuesday evening at Breffni Family Resource Centre from 8pm onwards.
**New Time for Breffni Parent and Toddler Group**
From Mon 4th January, Breffni Parent and Toddler Group will meet from
1pm to 3pm every Monday and Wednesday
in the Cabin at Breffni Family Resource Centre. All adults who are in the company of a toddler are invited to come along, enjoy a cup of tea/coffee, have a chat and let the toddlers mix and play! New toys, workshops and activities are arranged throughout the year.
Job Group Free Broadband Internet Access
Every Thursday, from 1pm to 4pm, we are inviting people that are unemployed or part employed to come along to avail of FREE public broadband internet access to search for employment and training opportunities. Local papers will also be available plus tea & coffee. Breffni Family Resource Centre offer varied administrative services including typing CV’s, photocopying, binding, printing etc and these will be offered at a discounted rate for those attending. Administrative Services, Internet and Supports
The Family Resource Centre at Breffni Crescent provides a range of administrative services including faxing, binding, laminating, printing as well as public Internet / Email access (Broadband) at only €3 per hour! Our Information Section stocks Social Welfare Booklets and Forms, literature from Comhairle, IFSRA, Legal Aid Board, Pensions Board, driving application forms etc. Other activities and services include Crèche, Pre-school, Afterschool, Youth Group, Women’s Group, and Men’s Group. We also hold various evening courses and workshops and we would be delighted to hear from you if there are any specific courses or classes that you are interested in. Resource Centre Website. Breffni Community Development
Company Limited, Family Resource Centre is a community
development initiative, which has stemmed from the
Townspark Residents Association. The Residents
Association was initially formed in 1991 by a group of
community enthusiasts residing in the St. Patrick's Park
and Breffni Crescent areas of Carrick-on-Shannon. The
Residents Association and subsequently Breffni Community
Development Company Ltd. aim to provide a range of
services and resources that empower local people to
address the social and economic needs identified within
their community.
We currently provide an array of
services including Childcare Facilities, Courses,
Training, Youth Services, Administrative Services,
Information, Breffni SHOP, Specific Interest Group
Activities, etc. We welcome your feedback and indeed
your comments and suggestions as to what you would like
to gain from your local Family Resource
Centre.
As

organisations that make it possible for us to provide
such an array of supports and services at Breffni Family

Childcare
Service.Situated
in a purpose built, secure setting, the crèche offers
quality childcare between the hours of 8am and 6pm,
Monday to Friday. The crèche operates on a full-time and
sessional basis, 8am-6pm full day; 8am – 1pm, morning

LATEST SILVER CIRCLE WINNERS
Congratulations to last week’s winners in the Townspark Residents Association Silver Circle Draw – the draw was won by: 1st Leo Duignan, St. Patrick’s Park won €45, 2nd John Smyth, c/o The Swan Bar, Carrick-on-Shannon, who won €30, the 3rd Prize of €20 went to Terry Gaffney, St. Patrick's Park, Carrick-on-Shannon. Thank you to both the supporters and the organisers of the draw. The money raised goes directly towards the various community development initiatives undertaken by Breffni Community Development Company Ltd.
