International Women’s Day

This year International Women’s Day is being celebrated at Breffni FRC on Friday 13th March. To mark the occasion we will host a Women’s Afternoon Tea in our Reception/Drop In area from 3.30pm – 5.00pm. Come along and join us!

Breffni Youth Café

Easter Fun Day
This is for children of 5-7 years of age. The day will filled with lots of fun and activities and will run from 11-2.30pm on Tuesday 7th April. Cost is €8 per child.

Easter Three Day Camp
This is a 3 day fun camp for young people aged 8-12 years. There will be a range of activities from sports to arts and crafts, groups games and lots more. The camp will be held on Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th and Friday 10th April from 11am to 4pm. Cost is €20. Messy Kids

New! Messy Kids Play Group

For children aged 5 – 7, the Messy Kids club meets every Monday from 3.30 - 4.30. All sorts of fun is planned! Messy Kids meet in The Cabin and the cost is €1 per week.

Parents and Toddler Group

Every Thursday morning, Breffni's Parent & Toddler Group meets from 11.00 - 12.30. All parents and children up to the age of four are very welcome. The group will be facilitated for the first few weeks to plan activities for the year ahead.

Volunteer Appreciation Event

Flower Arranging One Day Workshop

This workshop is being held the day before Mother’s Day, and will provide all you need to make your very own floral display gift. Courses at Breffni Family Resource Centre

• Art With Noreen
This course is suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced artists, and will teach the use of oils and acrylics. Contact us soon if you are interested in the new series of Art Classes which will begin on Tuesday 24th February from 12pm – 2pm for 6 weeks. Early booking is advised, as space is limited. • FETAC (QQI) Occupational First Aid This is a three day accredited course which will be held on three consecutive Saturdays and includes full training and a final exam. It will be held on Saturday 21st February, Saturday 28thFebruary and Saturday 7th March from 9.30 to 4.30pm. Cost is €160. To sign up for this course call 071 9622566 or come in to the centre.

• Computer Courses A Beginners Computer Course for Over 55’s and the Unemployed will start on Thursday 26thFebruary from 11.30 – 1.30pm.If you already know the basics, there is a Level 2 course also starting on Thursday 26th February from 2 – 4pm. Cost per course is €5.00. To register for either course, call us on 071 9622566 or drop in to the centre.

• Zumba Gold Fitness for the Over 55’s. This dance class started on Thursday 5th February from 10 – 10.45am and will run for 6 weeks. Cost €30. Please call us on 071 9622566 or email to register.

Marie Keating Foundation

This February, the foundation is calling on everyone to Think Pink or Do Blue! The beauty of Think Pink or Do Blue is that it’s so easy to take part; all you have to do is pick a day in February when you wear something pink or blue and donate €2 to the Marie Keating Foundation. All the proceeds will go to the Foundation’s Comfort Fund which helps families all over Ireland who are struggling financially as a result of their cancer diagnosis.

Information Event

'Supporting Our LGBT Young People'. This will be an informal information event aimed at parents of children who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) and for those working or volunteering with young people. There will be two sessions to facilitate participation. The first of these will be from 12.00 to 2.00pm on Tuesday 24th March and the second session is from 8.00pm to 10.00pm on Tuesday 24th March. This training will be free - limited places available!

Outside Thinking

Outside Thinking is a holistic business whose aim it is to empower the individual. It incorporates HANDLE (Holistic Approach to Neuro Development and Learning Efficiency), Human Software Engineering and Matrix Energetics. The next clinic, which is free, will be held on Monday 23rd February.The theme of the clinic is: Why won’t my child sit still? ADHD, Hyper, Active? We will explore the possible reasons and underline the causes of someone being unable to sit still without squirming, moving,standing up, fidgeting or distracting others. Some strategies and tips will be offered into finding a way of easing the challenge of sitting still.

Alternative Therapies Programme for People in Recovery

We offer a range of holistic therapies to people in recovery from drug and/or alcohol misuse and their families, in partnership with Mohill Family Support Centre. Short-term therapy 1-1 treatments include Reiki, Chinese Medicine, Reflexology and Massage. SMART Recovery Group is on every Thursday at 7pm and DROP IN Sessions every Tuesday evening 6-7pm are also available. All are low cost (by donation - you pay what you can afford). Rainbows Programme

This programme has been postponed until March: the next 12 week programme will commence with an induction meeting on Thursday 5th March 2015 from 7.00 – 8.00pm and will meet on a weekly basis on Thursdays.The programme is run by two trained facilitators per group, with groups formed of children of similar age and circumstance. Confidentiality is pivotal to the operation of the RAINBOWS programme. Rainbows supports children and young people with groups for children and young adults who have been affected by the death of a close family member and there are groups for children and young adults whose family life has changed because their parents have separated or divorced. RAINBOWS is a national children’s voluntary service with an average of 6,000 children coming into the service every year in Ireland and Breffni FRC has run many successful RAINBOW Programmes for children aged 6 - 18 years. Breffni Community Shop

You should have a look at the lovely hand knitted scarves we have in our shop, made by our Knitting Group. They also knitted warm hats for babies and adults. The shop stocks a range of basic goods and household items and is open Monday to Friday, 9-5 and 6-8.

Launch Of Leitrim Memory Café

The Leitrim Memory Café is a safe, relaxed space for people who have Alzheimer’s, dementia or acute confusion, and their carers. Health professionals and volunteers will be available for chats and advice. The launch of the Memory Café is on Tuesday 24th February at Café Paradiso at Carrick Cineplex from 11 - 1pm.Guest speaker is Helen Rochford Brennan, Chair of the National Dementia Working Group.

Prayer Groups

We have two prayer groups that meet weekly: the Charismatic Prayer Group on Monday evenings from 8.30 – 10.00, and the Wednesday Prayer Group meets weekly at 9pm.

The Carrick Coderdojo (computer coding for young people) has really grown and now meets in The Hive, Carrick on Shannon. Tickets for the Carrick Dojo are offered on a weekly basis, so email to take part in this club.

Sova: Russian-Speaking Women's Group

Breffni Walkers

It’s lovely weather for walking. Shake off those winter blues and join the Breffni Walkers for some gentle exercise. They meet on Monday mornings at 10am, outside Breffni Family Resource Centre. Tea and coffee served after the walk. Breffni Walkers is free.

Community Composting Site

If you would like to take part in our Community Composting Programme, disposing of your organic waste at Breffni Family Resource Centre, please give us a call on: 071-9622566. Opening times for the composting site are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8am to 4pm. Free compost can be collected when available. A once off donation of €5.00 will go towards the scheme.

Clothing and Textile Recycling

We now have a textile and clothing recycling bank situated at Breffni Family Resource Centre. A list of items that are recyclable is written on the bank but as a general rule, the following items are suitable:

  • All clothes - including coats, suits, underwear and night clothes
  • Hats, scarves and gloves
  • Belts, braces and handbags
  • All shoes - including boots and slippers
  • All household linen - including tablecloths, sheets and pillowcases, blankets, towels and curtains
  • Any worn out linen or clothing as long as it is clean (no oily or paint covered rags)

All proceeds from the recycling bank will go to Breffni Family Resource Centre so not only are you recycling but you will also be supporting your local community!

Rural Lift Bus

Rural Lift Bus Service

A Rural Lift Bus service is available from Breffni Crescent to town every weekday (Monday to Friday). Anyone wishing to get the lift into town can pick the bus up at Breffni Crescent or at the bottom of Currylane (post-box) at 2.30pm. Return trip from town can be arranged. One way costs €1 per person.

4th Annual Breffni Challenge Family 5K and 10K Walk, Run or Jog - A Great Success!

A family 5K and 10K Walk, Run or Jog took place on Sunday, 5th October 2014 at 11am from Breffni Family Resource Centre. The event was run by Breffni Community Development Company in association with the Leitrim/West Cavan Branch of Downs Syndrome Association. All funds raised will be distributed between both groups. The event was a great success with lots of people taking part in the challange, and lots of people supporting. Many thanks to everyone!

Volunteers Wanted for Breffni Youth Café

Breffni Youth Café is a youth organisation located at Breffni FRC which caters for young people aged 8-21 years of age and is open 5 days a week. We are currently looking for someone who can provide adult supervision for groups as well as assist other volunteers/youth workers with planning and group work. Someone who has good common sense with a positive attitude to young people is essential.

Supports for You
You will attend induction training and child protection training. Sharing experiences with and getting support from other leaders and staff. Policies, further training, good practice guidelines and insurance for the role are all provided.

Benefits to You
You will get to know young people, the other leaders and them you. You will develop leadership and facilitation skills and have opportunities to explore the various services in the FRC. You will also get the opportunity to gain some valuable skills which will enhance your C.V. “Volunteers are people from all walks of life, all ages and stages. Evening and Daytime Alternative Therapies

Auricular Acupuncture, Reiki and Meditation in a relaxed group setting every Tuesday from 7.15pm to 8.15pm and every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm.
Cost: Voluntary Donation.

Particularly effective as a support for those recovering from addictions. No need to book, just come along.
