Breffni Pre-School
Earlier this year, the Government announced details of Free Pre-School entitlement under the Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme (ECCE). Essentially, from the 1st January 2010, children aged between 3 years 3 months and 4 years 6 months, will be entitled to access to free Pre-School.
Breffni Childcare already operates a well established Pre-School service that is HSE approved and operated by qualified and experienced staff. From January 2010, Breffni will also be offering the Free Pre-School scheme (ECCE) to qualifying children. The Pre-School service will operate from 9.30am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday for 38 weeks per year, i.e. generally based on school-term system. As the new ECCE scheme commences mid way through the school year, the first ECCE programme will run from January to June. A new Pre-School year will subsequently commence in Sept 2010.

Crèche. Situated in a purpose built, secure setting, the crèche offers quality childcare between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. The crèche operates on a full-time and sessional basis, 8am-6pm full day; 8am – 1pm, morning session; 1pm – 6pm afternoon session.

Breffni Childcare crèche is Health Service Executive registered and inline with this our facility operates in accordance with all Pre-School regulations including routine Health Service Executive inspections and associated reporting. We strive to employ Childcare Workers who are both qualified and experienced and we actively promote further training and development for all of our staff. The Crèche itself comprises of a Baby Room and a Toddler Room, offering care to babies and children aged 4 months to 3/4 years. We can care for 3 babies and 12 toddlers per session. Within the Baby room and the Toddler room we work on the ethos of “learning through play”, therefore the children are encouraged to participate in loosely structured and vibrant activities throughout their time in the crèche.

Pre-School. The Pre School within Breffni Childcare runs from 9.30 – 12.30, Monday to Friday. We provide care for a maximum of 8 children per Pre-School session and with such a small number of children per session each one is assured quality, individual attention during the morning. Here too we operate in accordance with Health Service Executive regulations, inspection procedures and reporting.

Based on the concept that Pre-School is the stepping-stone to “Big School”, we do implement routine and semi-structure into each session, providing the children with opportunities to participate in a wide range of fun and interesting activities and games to further promote their personal development and to prepare them for primary school.

After-School. The After School Programme has been developed to meet the needs of families with school going children between the ages of 5yrs and 12yrs. The after school sessions run from 2pm – 6pm, Monday to Friday with two childcare workers present throughout each session.
As well as receiving individual homework support, children accessing the programme participate in physical, creative, musical and dramatic activities. Additional funding from external bodies has provided us with the opportunity to run successful workshops in the after school throughout the summer months.

Parent & Toddler Group. The Parent and Toddler group is an informal group open to any adult who is in the company of a toddler. The group provides an opportunity for both toddlers and adults to mix and mingle in a relaxed setting with a plentiful supply of play equipment.

Breffni Parent and Toddler Group meet in ‘The Cabin’ at Breffni from 11am-1pm every Monday and Wednesday. There is no need to book at place for children in the Parent & Toddler Group where an informal drop in environment is encouraged.
