One World WeekOne World Week Breffni Youth Cafe from Carrick On Shannon selected for ‘One World Week’ Grant The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) has awarded Breffni Youth Cafe grant to assist them with their activities as part of One World Week 2013. Valerie Duffy, of the NYCI development education programme said: "Breffni Youth Cafe's activity was chosen from among a large volume of high quality applications from all over Ireland, which shows how good their work is. We look forward to seeing the group take action during One World Week this year.”

One World Week is a week of youth-led awareness raising, education and action that takes place throughout Ireland during the third week in November every year. This year it runs from November 16th to 24th and invites groups to respond in their own way to the question ‘what world do young people want’?During One World Week young people learn about local and global justice issues and take action to bring about change. Youth groups all over the country run activities, public events, quizzes and debates, invite guest speakers, have intercultural evenings or express themselves through drama and art.

Cross Border/ Cross Community Youth ProjecCross Border/ Cross Community Youth Project Members of Breffni Youth Cafe took part in the last leg of their Cross Border Project with their partner group Carrosyl on Thursday 31st October and Friday the 1st November. The project which was aimed at forming links between young people in the North and here in the South was a huge success.

Not only did this project provide the young people with a wide range of skill building opportunities it also allowed them the chance to learn about new cultures and traditions and make new friends.

As part of the final stage of this project the young people stayed overnight in the Share Centre where they took part in team building and evaluation activities. Followed by this the young people went to Causey Farm in County Meath to celebrate Halloween in style with a Halloween themed night on the Farm. A few scary moments were had by all but most importantly the young people had a great time together.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this project such a success, to our partner group Carrosyl Community Association in Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh who done all the hard work with the application process, to all the young people from both Carrick on Shannon and from Lisnaskea (especially Jackie the Lisnaskea Leader) who engaged in the project and made it so much fun and to PEACE and Fermanagh County Council for the funding to make it all possible.

We are all looking forward to future opportunities to work together but in the mean time as the quote goes-Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.

Summer Camps 2013 Breffni Youth Café hosted 6 weeks of summer camps this year, which were packed with lots of fun and adventure. All the participants enjoyed themselves immensely and are looking forward to our next set of camps which are due to take place during October Midterm. This year the young people enjoyed a variety of activities such as craft workshops, T-shirt design, arts and crafts, sports, team games and different day trips to such places as Carrick Cineplex, Tullyboy Farm, Forest Park and Lough Alllen Education Centre all of which they enjoyed in the glorious sunshine.

Cross Border Project. Ten members of Breffni Youth Cafe have been involved in a cross border project during the summer months with a group of young people from Carrosyl Community Group in Lisnaskea. As part of this project the young people have made some wonderful friendships and have had some fun days out. Some of these outings have included a trip to Zip It in Boyle and a visit down to ou partner group. We are all looking forward to our next meeting which is due to take place in October.
